Musical Monday!

Okay, so I love this band, and I hope you will too!

THE AVETT BROTHERS

If you haven't heard of them, then you should. If you have heard of them, then you know how totally RAD they are!!
One of the Young Men that Zack taught at Church in Georgia traded Zack for some new music and he gave us our first taste of this North Carolina band with their CD Emotionalism. We loved it! Then recently I got one of their other CDs, Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions. Both are seriously so so good. I pulled these quotes from their web site that try to describe them a little bit. Because it's true, they are hard to pin down into one genre.

"It is not New Year's, and it is not a political convention. It is neither a prime time game-show, nor a music video countdown, bloated with fame and sponsorship. What you are hearing is the love for a music. It is the unbridled outcry of support for a song that sings to the heart, that dances with the soul. The jubilation is in the theaters, the bars, the music clubs, the festivals. The love is for a band."

"The songs are honest: just chords with real voices singing real melodies. But, the heart and the energy with which they are sung, is really why people are talking, and why so many sing along."

"The Avett Brothers, is a mixture of old-time country, bluegrass, pop melodies, folk, rock n' roll, honky-tonk and ragtime. Listeners merely need one spin through the album to realize the breadth and depth of the Avett's music. The overall sound is without the need of a label, because frankly none would do the music the justice. It's simply left up to each person to extract his or her own account from the Avett's music."

It may be shocking to see country in their line up of descriptions since I really, really don't like country. But honestly, to me they aren't country at all, or if this is country, why doesn't other country sound like this? I guess the key is "old-time country." In any case, seriously give these boys a listen, you'll be hooked!

I haven't heard them yet, but Lisa and Nathan Kunkel talk about them. They are coming to concert next month and they are totally excited about it! Too bad you aren't here, you could go too!
